According to the Hartford Courant, seven Connecticut state legislators from Bristol and New Britain requested a meeting with Economic Development Commissioner Joan McDonald in an attempt to save their towns’ newspapers. The owner, Journal Register company, warned earlier in November that without buyers, the newspapers would be closed after Christmas.
“Christopher Cooper, a spokesman for Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell said that McDonald will meet with the delegation to see what can be done about the future of the newspapers.”
The legislators are concerned about the current economic climate and what additional job losses would mean for their communities.
