I would like to introduce this year’s Photography Judge’s:

Jake Carpenter’s interest in videography became an interest in photojournalism early on in his life when he was taken under the wing of the Director of Photography at KCCI in Des Moines. The entire newsroom staff at KCCI guided Jake for several years while he attended high school in West Des Moines, Iowa. During that time he co-founded CW Digital Visuals, a media production company now based in Des Moines and Chicago. He later attended the University of Iowa where he helped establish a daily, student-run newscast. In 2006 he interned at CNN in Atlanta where he filmed and edited content for air on CNN networks (CNN Domestic, International, Headline News, Espanol, etc.).

He has shadowed on the set of Sex and the City, interned at KARE in Minneapolis, contributed to a winning Emmy entry and NPPA SOY runner-up tape, and won his own first place BOP Spot News award. He’s extremely grateful to have been mentored by Cortney Kintzer; photojournalists at KCCI, KARE, and CNN; numerous NPPA members; and the late Ray Farkas.

Jake graduated from the University of Iowa in 2009 and is currently serving an 11-month term as an Americorps member for Habitat for Humanity in Jacksonville, Florida before resuming his television career.
