The photography judges finished judging the Feature category after the noon chat on Poynter.org Steve Rhodes’ (WTHR) “Tea Time” story from this summer’s Olympics in China was the 1st place winner.
Rounding out the category were:

3rd-“What the Duck?!?” Jonathan Malat KARE Minneapolis
HM-“Reflect on America” Darren Durlach WBFF Baltimore
HM-“Steven Seagull” Andy Shilts KMSP Minneapolis
Spot News was the next category with 30 entries. The clear winner was the Jonathan Malat/Boyd Huppert (KARE) story from the Republican National Convention riots “Freedom Met It’s Limits” Even though Jonathan was about to be arrested, he kept shooting for what turned out to be the best of the Spot News Stories.

The Editing Judges have already made their way through 5 of the smaller entered categories.
Sports 24 Hour only had 2 entries, so only 1 place was awarded.
Honorable Mention goes to John Gross (KSTP) for “Angry Bowler”
Sports Feature has the Wiffle Ball story, “Not Your Kids League” from Bill Middeke (KARE) placing 1st. The rest of the winners are:

Under Deadline General News had 4 entries and only one placed. That winner is Greg T. Johnson from WFAA (Dallas) with “Best Kept Secret”
Under Deadline Spot News only had 3 entries this year. Josh Maranhas from KDVR in Denver took the top spot with “The Top Came Off”.
And in the Magazine Editing Category Shawn Montano (KWGN) won 1st place with “Journey of Hope”
